Each weekend keeps getting better and better! This weekend my Marine Biology class embarked on a field trip to Cuajiniquil located on the upper pacific coast. It is a quaint little town with great access to the open ocean for fishermen, or snorkeling groups like ourselves! Our goal this weekend was to spend as much time in the water as possible identify all the marine life we could.
I scuba dove this weekend for the first time in three and a half years and I had forgotten how amazing it was. It is like being in a whole different world - a world underwater where without a breathing apparatus no one would never know about. My favorite part is flipping on my back and looking up into the sun from underwater, it is just an incredible and different experience. For me, scuba diving is really peaceful, once you find that perfect buoyancy you can drift with the currents and truly take your time taking in your surroundings.
We saw so many creatures, from sea turtles, to stingrays, to multiple species of fish, eels and coral. I could spend my whole life in the sea - it is really amazing. We also spent a good deal of time exploring the intertidal zone, which is almost as interesting as coral reefs. We were able to see brittle stars, sea cucumbers, sea slugs and all kinds of crabs! I was definitely able to nerd out this past weekend and reignite the marine biologist within me!
